Mairi and David both had the same demanding summer job being door to door salesmen. Despite their long hours in the sun each day, they would stay up late with each other almost every night, talking until the wee hours of the morning. One night, during movie night, Mairi decided to step out of her comfort zone and be a little flirtatious. To her dismay, when she tried to hold David’s hand, he didn’t reciprocate her affections.
Thinking he obviously had no feelings for her, the next day at work Mairi apologized for making a move. To her surprise, David looked right at her and told her in no uncertain terms “Mairi, I like you.” His only reservation was that he thought she wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time! Luckily for David, Mairi knew she couldn’t pass up on a boy like this. Those long summer nights turned into even longer winter nights, and they became inseparable.
When Christmas came, Mairi had no expectations. She knew David was at his parents house- 4 hours away from where she was spending Christmas with her family at the family’s farm. But David had some tricks up his sleeve. On Christmas Eve, David sped through the night so he could decorate one of the barn stalls with lights, photos, and sentimental memories from their time together. He was ready to go and lying in wait as the sun rose in the distance.
It’s Christmas morning now, and Mairi’s brother gets her out of bed to go “help out with chores on the farm”. Barely awake and still rubbing sleep from her eyes, Mairi walks into the barn….and right past the stall David is in! Her brother has to grab her by the arm and guide her back to the right stall, where David is finally able to propose and pull off the surprise of a lifetime! The rest of the day was spent snuggling as fiancées in each other’s arms.
Mairi, it feels like it was so recently that you were graduating high school, and now you’re marrying the love of your life. The next time I see you guys, I’ll be seeing you as a bride and groom! I love the happiness and joy that shines through you both- your cute faces make the most amazing pictures. I can’t wait for your wedding in April!
