There’s something magical about a summer wedding in Charlotte, and Amelia and Yan’s celebration at Alexander Homestead was the perfect mix of romance, tradition, and joy. These two met online nearly six years ago, and from their very first coffee date in NoDa, they knew they had found something special. Their wedding day was filled with love, laughter, and a seamless blend of American and Chinese traditions.
From the moment Amelia slipped into her gown from Bluebird Bridal, everyone knew this was going to be an unforgettable day. She had kept the dress a complete secret from Yan (even though they live together!) and the excitement of their first look was palpable. The way he saw her for the first time as his bride was one of the most emotional and heartfelt moments of the day
The ceremony took place in the barn of Alexander Homestead to beat the outside heat and keep those red florals from Mint Hill Flower Market blooming fresh. Red, a symbol of luck, joy, and prosperity in Chinese weddings, was woven throughout the day not only in their flowers, but even in things like their decadent red velvet cake by Sweet It Is. It was such a meaningful way to honor Yan’s heritage while creating a truly personalized celebration.
Once vows were shared and the kiss was sealed, it was time for a lively reception. Dinner, catered by Alexander Homestead’s team, set the stage for heartfelt toasts and so many happy tears. The couple’s first dance was followed by fun traditions like cake cutting, and even a playful shoe game with their DJ, All The Right Grooves. And of course, everyone was ready to hit the dance floor and celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime day.
What stood out most about Amelia and Yan’s wedding was the deep sense of connection. Friends and family traveled from all over to witness the start of their new chapter. Despite the July heat, every single guest was glowing with joy as they watched these two officially become husband and wife. I’ve never known two sweeter people more worthy of finding love when they least expected it, and building a bond rooted in authenticity, support, and laughter.
Amelia and Yan, it was such an honor to capture your Charlotte wedding at Alexander Homestead. Thank you for letting us be part of such an important chapter in your lives. You are both incredible people. I am so happy you found each other, and I’m beyond excited to see where your journey takes you next!
